You’ll find many opportunities to become involved in the costuming areas in the Diederich College. Gain practical knowledge working as an assistant costume designer, wardrobe supervisor or costume crew member for the main stage shows. This abundance of costuming experiences is one of the greatest facets of the design sequence for theatre majors and minors, giving you the opportunity to apply the facts and theories taught in class to actual costuming situations.

Connie Petersen – Costume Design Faculty and Costume Shop Manager

Connie Petersen has worked alongside Deb Krajec since 2002, constructing and designing costumes and mentoring student designers for all main stage productions. She has designed professionally in the United States and England, and her work has been seen in theatre, opera and film. Connie teaches Stage Makeup, Basic Costume Construction, and Advanced Costume Techniques. Many of the students who enroll in costume courses also elect to work as shop assistants, where they get paid to construct costumes under Connie’s and Deb's supervision. The atmosphere in the costume shop is casual and laid back, with music playing and students chatting. But the work is serious, and the results show every time another production hits the stage. Connie takes great pride in her work and the work of her students. And that pride is something you can take with you years after you’ve received your degree.
