For more information, please see the University's website:

WHAT TO DO when you arrive at MATC (Graduates)

Enter MATC through the doors on State Street (located west of 6th Street). Immediately report to the check-in area located just down the hall from your entry doors in the back hallway behind Cooley Auditorium. Find the table for your major and the card with your name on it. KEEP THIS CARD WITH YOU until you give it to the announcer who’ll use it to read your name as you cross the stage to receive your diploma. MATC Floor Plan for Guests and Graduates

Restrooms on the 2nd floor of MATC are located on the north (or far) end of the floor, a long walk from the check-in tables. The men’s restroom is located all the way at the end of the back hallway (behind the auditorium). The women’s restroom is located all the way at the end of the front hallway (main hallway in front of the auditorium). Remember, there won’t be much time!

Line Up:
Find the gathering place for your major in either hallway 1 or hallway 2. Look for the banner for your major. Line-up lists are posted on the wall. The list shows the line up order. A column leader for each major will be at the head of the line followed by the graduates lined up in alphabetical order—ready for the processional at noon.

After your name is called and you cross the stage, you’ll be directed to the hallway behind the stage where you’ll sign a receipt card in exchange for your diploma. Then, you’ll return to the auditorium for the remainder of the ceremony entering once again through the main doors and returning to a seat in your section. You do not have to return to exactly the same seat – any seat in your section will do. If you are actually graduating in August and are just participating in May, you won’t receive your diploma at this time and will just head straight back to the auditorium.

A professional photographer will take a picture of you as you receive your diploma on stage. A second photographer will be stationed in Hallway 1 and will take a picture of you after you’ve picked up your actual diploma and are on your way back to the auditorium. You will receive an email from the photographer containing information on how to access and review the graduation photos and place an order. This year our contract is with Empire Photography, (608) 257-2969,

Caps & Gowns:
Graduates receiving B.A. degrees keep all academic apparel. Graduates receiving M.A. degrees return all academic apparel (except tassel) to boxes in the back hallway behind the stage immediately following the end of the graduation ceremony.
