Mr. McGilligan has written numerous biographies, including “Alfred Hitchcock: A Life in Darkness and Light,” a finalist for the Edgar Award, and “George Cukor: A Double Life.” He is the author of two New York Times Notable Books. His most recent book, “Oscar Micheaux: The Great and Only,” a biography of the pioneering African-American novelist and filmmaker, was named by the New York Public Library as one of 2007’s "25 Books to Remember." He is completing a new biography of film director Nicholas Ray.
