Argonne National Laboratory

Full-Time Science Writing Internship

About Argonne National Laboratory Argonne National Laboratory has more than 200 research programs in basic and applied science, including mathematics and computer science, environmental research, materials science, physics, chemistry, energy research, biology and advanced nuclear reactor technology. Argonne's Illinois site is located on a wooded 1500 acre campus near Chicago.

Job Overview: The intern will work ten 40-hour weeks during the summer of 2016, conducting interviews, writing science news and feature articles for Argonne Now magazine and the Argonne website and working on related communications projects, such as scripting short videos and contributing to social media events.

The intern will work daily as a member of a team that includes ten full-time professional writers and journalists who will provide assignments, advice and mentoring in a working environment that is collegial, creative and collaborative.

Compensation is as follows:

  • Stipends are $15/hour for undergraduates and $17.50/hour for graduate students, up to a maximum of 40 hours per week
  • Housing on the Argonne campus
  • Please note: stipends, housing and travel are considered taxable income, and Argonne is required by law to report this income

Qualifications: Candidates must have demonstrated writing ability and an interest in science. Other aspects of the application have bearing, but writing samples—stories and articles published in newspapers, magazines, blogs or written for class—weigh most heavily in the selection process. Ideal candidates will also reflect the following:

  • U.S. citizen or legan permanent resident status
  • Undergraduate or graduate student in good standing or May–June 2016 graduate at an accredited college or university
  • Must have completed at least sophomore year by May 2016 with demonstrated competence in science writing

Haggerty Museum of Art

The Pitch Project Internship

About The Pitch Project: The Pitch Project is a home for contemporary art practices in Milwaukee's Historic Walker's Point neighborhood. Marketing and Communications:

  • Assist in development and execution of marketing strategy for The Pitch Project

Job Overview: Hoffman York’s Media Planning and Buying department is hiring eager, ambitious students seeking agency experience in planning, executing, and stewarding paid media placements. We currently have available internship positions for the Spring semester which typically starts in January and lasts throughout May.

Our Media Planning and Buying department strategically plans and buys paid advertising across all media types to help our clients’ reach their target audiences. We like to view our interns as junior level planners, as our interns play a critical role in our day-to-day tasks and help us achieve our clients’ goals. Our Media Planning and Buying interns will be asked to handle a variety of tasks and are largely responsible for compiling reach and frequency data, comparing the value of different media outlets, and assisting media planners and buyers in their media selections and executions.

Internships are paid, and with approval, are available for credit.

Qualifications: We are looking for a detail oriented student with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office – including Excel. An interest in research and math is a plus.

Lax Sports Network is seeking interns from colleges around the country to cover their school's lacrosse programs. This is an excellent opportunity for the aspiring, on-air reporter to develop his or her skills in a real-world environment.

With this opportunity for college students majoring in a communications-related field, LSN Academy provides a unique opportunity to gain on-air reporting experience, covering college lacrosse for Lax Sports Network, the first-ever network dedicated to the fastest-growing sport in North America.

LSN Academy members will create their reports shooting and editing with their own phone or mobile device using a state-of-the-art platform provided by the Network. LSN will provide training and necessary support. Students will also receive feedback and training in reporting, on-air, and production techniques throughout the semester from Lax Sports Network producers and managers.

LSN Academy reporters will be required to file 3-5 video reports each week and work a schedule based on the media availability and schedule of the team(s) they are covering, including evening and weekend games and practices as necessary. Candidates accepted into the LSN Academy program will receive college credit.

Responsibilities: 

  • File 3-5 regularly scheduled video reports per week
  • Provide additional unscheduled video reports, should news about the team warrant coverage

Job Overview: County Executive Abele is currently accepting applications for the Spring 2016 Internship Program. This is an unpaid, semester long program and requires a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week. The program is intended to provide meaningful educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate level students within the County government while providing support to full-time staff.

Students should be enrolled full-time or part-time in an undergraduate or higher program. Preference will be given students whose field relates directly to the activities of the County Executive’s Office. These may include, but are not limited to, fields such as political science, public administration, economic development, urban studies, journalism, public relations, and communications.

Interns will work alongside the full-time staff of the Executive Office. Interns may be involved in some or all of the following: constituent service issues, research pertaining to issues being discussed by the Executive’s office and the County Board, drafting of Executive Proclamations, responding to scheduling requests, and creating briefings/talking points for the County Executive. Interns will also have the option to attend staff meetings as an opportunity to learn about County government.

We are seeking a part-time Graphics Intern (15 - 25 hours/week) in our Marketing & Communications department to assist our Digital Marketing Manager with design and production marketing and communication materials, including print and online elements.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with design and production of brochures, newsletters, promotional materials, on-screen visuals, digital campaigns, etc.
  • Update and submit ads for print and web.
  • Clip, retouch and resize photos.
  • Proofread promotional material content.
  • Organize graphics including photos and logos.
  • Fulfill graphic (photo/logo) requests for internal and external contacts.
  • Take photos at United Way volunteer events.
  • Assist in photo shoot prep and setup.

Job Overview: As an intern at Newsradio 620 WTMJ, you'll have the chance to work with a diverse group of journalists and on-air staff. You'll also have the chance to learn the digital side of radio. You must have the ability to work with others and observe.

You will accompany reporters on story assignments, have the opportunity to participate in story preparation and construction, assist in updating the WTMJ website with news, sports and audio / video content, conduct interviews over the telephone and digitally edit audio, update station social media accounts and create web-only stories complete with audio and photos.

Qualifications: Must be a current student and have the availability to work 15 hours per week on weekday mornings and afternoons.
