Great Lakes Environmental Film Festival

May 1-3

The inaugural Great Lakes Environmental Film Fest will take place from May 1-3 in Milwaukee. Organized by students and hosted by the Diederich College of Communication, it will feature movies with environmental themes with the mission to raise awareness about many ecological issues affecting our planet.

Big Ideas

Students present Cultura, their magazine journalism capstone

Journalism students in Dr. Nettleton's magazine capstone produced Cultura, a bilingual magazine about arts at Marquette and in Milwaukee. Cultura was produced entirely by the students. Students were required to take on roles writing, editing, fact checking and designing. Cultura was partnered with Spanish students in Dr. Julia Paulk's classes, who helped with the translation of some stories. 

Students receive Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Student Awards for Excellence

Michael Cianciolo and Michael Beiermeister received first place for Sports Play-by-Play for the MUTV broadcast of the Women's Basketball game against Xavier. Michael Cianciolo received second place Sports Story award for his MUTV package on Dwyane Wade's gift to the Live to Dream program. Brian Georgeson received third place in the Promo/PSA/Commercials category for MUTV Fall Sports.  

Marquette alumnus Adam Stockhausen wins Oscar

Marquette alumnus Adam Stockhausen won an Academy Award for his production design in "The Grand Budapest Hotel." Stockhausen was previously nominated for his work on the 2013 film "12 Years a Slave." Stockhausen graduated from Marquette's theater department in 1995.
