Exploring Mental Health Issues

Students Gain Hands-on Experience with Public Service Journalism Project

During the 2012-13 academic year, sixteen Diederich College of Communication students worked with visiting fellow in public service journalism Meg Kissinger and professional in residence Danielle Beverly to produce a project that examines the topic of mental health. The students worked as documentary film crew members and researchers to help produce written and multimedia components.

The team compiled footage from Milwaukee and Geel, Belgium, telling stories that focused on the impact of mental illness on both an individual and community scale.
